Color choices
A picnic basket tips onto a checkered blanket, spilling apples across the squares. Color the basket in a warm woven brown, and give the blanket alternating light and dark squares. The apples scattered over the cloth could take a bright red, while the lake and mountains in the distance fade into cooler, muted tones. Try deep green for the pine trees and cattails along the shore.
Color the apples and blanket
Color the apples first using a light tone, then apply a darker shade to the checkered blanket pattern.
