Shadow or no shadow
In one picture the groundhog sees its long shadow on a sunny hill, and in the other grey clouds hide the sun while the first crocuses appear. Color both and compare.
On February 2, people in the United States watch a groundhog come out of its burrow. The story says that if it sees its shadow there will be six more weeks of winter, and if not, spring will come early. These pages show both outcomes and the day around them.
There are simple pages of the groundhog peeking out and seeing its shadow, a cutaway of its burrow underground, a crowd in a snowy town square, and funny pages such as a groundhog weather forecaster. Start with the six picks below, then download the free PDF.
