Color choices

Tree rings can begin with pale tan near the center and shift through honey, amber, and warm brown toward the bark. Color the broad wood surface first, then fill the narrow growth bands with alternating shades. Use deep brown or charcoal along the radiating cracks for contrast. Finish the rough outer bark with earthy browns and muted gray accents.

Repeating Ring Pattern

Choose a repeating sequence of shades for the growth rings. Give the rough bark and radiating cracks stronger contrast against the inner wood.

Before you print

Tree Rings Cross-Section Coloring Page has about 104 separate areas to color, a medium level of detail. Crayons work for the larger shapes, and colored pencils or fine markers help in the smaller spaces.

Download the PDF and print it on US Letter. For A4, select “Fit to page” in the print dialog; a single test print shows whether your printer keeps the thin outer frame.
