Color choices
This butterfly rests on a large iris bloom, its rounded wings dotted with a ring of small circles along the edges. Try a bright tone for the wing spots, then keep the wing body itself in a softer shade so the pattern stands out against it. The iris petals ruffle upward around the butterfly and can take soft purples or blues, while the long, strappy leaves below suit a fresh green.
Compare petals and leaves
Color the iris petals first, then use a contrasting palette for the butterfly’s wings and body.
