Color choices

Ptarmigans can be colored first with soft white, pale gray, or warm cream across the feathers. Shade the beaks and feet in muted brown or charcoal, then use black for the eyes and small feather accents. Finish the snowbanks with cool blue shadows, using dusky green or brown on the shrub stems and lavender along the distant mountains for contrast.

Snowy Feather Patterns

Color the wing and body feather sections with alternating pale shades. Repeat selected shades across the ptarmigans to create a coordinated winter pattern.

Printing tips

Ptarmigans in the Snow Coloring Page has about 216 separate areas to color, a medium level of detail. Crayons work for the larger shapes, and colored pencils or fine markers help in the smaller spaces.
