Color choices

Emu family feathers can begin with warm brown and soft gray, leaving cream highlights along the shaggy edges. Use muted tan for the beaks and legs, then echo the browns across the chicks’ striped plumage. Color the windmill in cool silver-gray, with rust accents for contrast. Finish the grasses, shrubs, rocks, and distant ridge in ochre, olive, and sandy beige.

Chick Feather Patterns

Use alternating shades across the chicks’ feather stripes. Repeat selected shades in the grasses to connect the family with the outback setting.

Printing tips

Emu Family Walking Through the Outback Coloring Page has about 190 separate areas to color, a medium level of detail. Crayons work for the larger shapes, and colored pencils or fine markers help in the smaller spaces.

The PDF fills one US Letter page. On A4 paper, choose “Fit to page” so the frame stays inside the margins, and print one test copy before making a class set.
