Color choices

Bulging checkerboard sphere areas can alternate between black and white for a classic optical effect. Color the broad central cells first, then continue through the curved grid cells and narrow pinched sections. Combine dark blue with pale blue, or purple with yellow, using stronger contrast near the sphere’s outline and softer changes toward the outer edges.

Warped Color Sequence

Repeat a chosen color sequence across the curved cells, then reverse the sequence after the narrow sections to emphasize the bulging effect.

Before you print

With about 279 areas to color, Bulging Checkerboard Sphere Op Art Coloring Page is a detailed page with many small spaces. Fine-tip markers or sharpened pencils give the most control; color it in sections if you like.

The PDF fills one US Letter page. On A4 paper, choose “Fit to page” so the frame stays inside the margins, and print one test copy before making a class set.

This picture is also in the Op Art Coloring Pack, one PDF with 12 pictures and a cover page for printing a set in one go.
